Refrigeration Appliances
Annual Energy Consumption [kWh/Year]
The Annual Energy Consumption [kWh/Year] of Refrigeration appliances
is measured according to international standards.
Depth [cm]
The depth in centimetres. Ensure that the appliance will fit
by measuring the space where you want to install the appliance.
Typically the depth for slot-in and built-in appliances is 60cm.
Energy Efficiency Class
According to an EU Directive all Refrigeration appliances must
have an EU Energy Label clearly displayed when offered for sale
or rent. The energy efficiency of the appliance is rated from
A to G on the label, A being the most energy efficient, G the
least efficient. The labels also give other useful information
to the customer as they choose between various models. When
comparing features of different models remember to also check
the Annual Energy Consumption [kWh/Year].
Freezer Volume [Litres]
The useful freezer volume in litres. Typically this is 100 Litres
(this will vary – it will be less for a refrigerator with
a freezer compartment and much greater for a chest freezer).
Fridge Volume [Litres]
The useful fridge volume in litres. Typically this is 140 Litres.
Height [cm]
The height in centimetres. Ensure that the appliance will fit
by measuring the space
where you want to install the appliance.
85cm will fit under the normal kitchen worktop.
Initial Cost [£]
The purchasing price.
Lifetime Operating Cost [£]
The running cost is calculated as the cost of electricity used
over the 15 year lifetime of the appliance.
Lifetime Savings CO2 [Tons]
The reduction of CO2 emissions in tons due to lower energy consumption.
[1Ton = 1000kg]
Lifetime Savings Financial
The money saved as a result of the lower energy consumption
of the appliance
Noise [dB(A)]
Noise is measured in decibels [dB(A)]. Manufacturers give the
dB(A) rating for each appliance. The lower, the rating the quieter
the appliance when it is operating. For example if you choose
between two models where one has 35 dB(A) and the other 45 dB(A).
The one with 45 is twice as loud as the one with 35.
Price Range [£]
The prices given are an indication only of the price range.
Prices will vary from shop to shop and region to region.
Star Rating
Freezers & Refrigerators with a freezer compartment have
a star rating.
* Temperature = -6ºC
Maximum storage time for frozen food / 1 week
** Temperature = -12ºC
Maximum storage time for frozen food / 1 month
*** Temperature = -18ºC
Maximum storage time for frozen food / 3 months
**** Temperature / -21ºC
Maximum storage time for frozen food / long term, up to 12 months
Fresh food can only be frozen in a freezer with a four star
(****) rating.
Total Cost [£]
Initial Cost + 15 year Lifetime Operating Cost
Width [cm]
The width in centimetres. Ensure that the appliance will fit
by measuring the space where you want to install the appliance.Typically
the width for slot-in and built-in appliances is 60cm.

Dishwashing Appliances
Annual Energy Consumption [kWh/Year]
For Dishwashers the annual energy consumption [kWh/Year] is
based on 220 washes per year
using the manufacturers recommended programme, usually a 60ºC
or 55ºC wash.
Cleaning/Drying Efficiency Class
The cleaning and drying efficiencies of the appliance is rated
from A to G on the EU energy label, A being the most efficient
for cleaning and/or drying, G the least efficient.
Depth [cm]
The depth in centimetres. Ensure that the appliance will fit

not include the noise from the water inlet.

The capacity of the Dishwasher according to international standards.
If you have dishes or plates of irregular sizes take these to
the shop and check if they will fit in the dishwasher baskets.

Air Extraction (Dryer Type)
A ventilation duct to the outside should always be used for
air vented Tumble Dryers or Washer Dryers.
Annual Energy Consumption [kWh/Year]
(Washing Machines)
For a Washing Machine this is based on 200 washes per year,
using a 60°C cotton cycle.
Annual Energy Consumption [kWh/Year]
(Tumble Dryers)
For a Tumble Dryer the annual energy consumption figure is based
on a four person household using the Dryer at all times for
drying the cloths.
Annual Energy Consumption [kWh/Year]
(Washer Dryers)
For a Washer Dryer the annual energy consumption figure is based
on a four person household doing 200 washes annually and using
the Dryer at all times for drying the cloths.

Drying Capacity [kg] (Tumble dryers)
The maximum dry weight of cloths, in kilograms, for each drying
cycle.
Drying Capacity [kg] (Washer Dryers)
The maximum dry weight of cloths, in kilograms, for each drying
cycle.
The drying capacity for Washer Dryers is usually half that of
the wash capacity.
